Without UT Austin, there would be no EnviroMedia

Here’s a bit of news from the dedication of the new home for the University of Texas at Austin College of Communication. We’re proud to be part of it.

EnviroMedia Contributes Student Study Lounge to Belo Center for New Media

With the dedication of the Belo Center for New Media at The University of Texas at Austin College of Communication, EnviroMedia Social Marketing now has a permanent home on the campus where its founders got their start.

The student study lounge in the new Belo center has been named for EnviroMedia founders Kevin Tuerff and Valerie Davis, who have pledged $100,000 over five years to support the Department of Advertising and Public Relations to develop innovative education about ethics that would prevent greenwashing and misleading health claims.

“Kevin and I had our first jobs together at the Texas Exes Association in the ‘80s and it was while working there we both said we should start an agency some day,” said EnviroMedia co-founder and CEO Davis. “We made it a reality in 1997 when we started our agency and decided we would focus solely on environmental and health advertising and public relations campaigns. Now with this donation, we’re hoping to help remind new students at UT who eventually enter our industry that you can be authentic and ethical about this kind of marketing.”

The new Belo Center provides interactive classrooms and meeting space for more than 4,600 students in the college and houses the adjacent KUT Public Media Studios. The Belo Center has a dedicated advertising classroom and houses the offices of college administration, the School of Journalism and Department of Advertising and Public Relations. The college is applying to receive “silver certification” from the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).

Davis received a Bachelor of Journalism from UT in 1985, and Tuerff received a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Communications from the University in 1988.

Tuerff, EnviroMedia co-founder and president, said, “We’re proud to be a 100-percent Longhorn-owned company. Without UT Austin, there would be no EnviroMedia. It’s where Valerie Davis and I met, and learned the skills of our business. We’re proud of our success, and happy to have this opportunity to give back on behalf of our hard working staff, many of whom are Texas Exes.”
