AUSTIN, Texas—After a 17-year career as editor of The Alcalde, the alumni magazine of The University of Texas, Avrel Seale is moving to EnviroMedia Social Marketing, where he’ll serve as its first Chief Marketing Officer.

Seale will report directly to EnviroMedia principals Kevin Tuerff and Valerie Davis and help the agency promote authentic green marketing, sustainability and climate change protection issues. An accomplished magazine editor, book author, screenwriter and director, Seale will also oversee EnviroMedia’s internal and external communications. Seale’s Dude: A Generation X Memoir was listed by the Austin American-Statesman as one of the Best Books of 2008.

“I’ve had a tremendously fulfilling career working for the Texas Exes,” said Seale. “It took a really special organization to get me to consider something new, and EnviroMedia is just that. They’re in the business of making the world a better place by changing public behavior, and they have fun doing it. What more could you possibly want?”

Seale will finish his work with The Alcalde with the January/February issue, which commemorates the alumni group’s 125th year and goes to 85,000 Texas Exes. He joins EnviroMedia Jan. 4.

Tuerff and Davis are University of Texas graduates who met and began their careers at the Texas Exes alumni association, eventually opening EnviroMedia in 1997. Seale began his career with The Alcalde as Davis’ successor as assistant editor in 1992 and became editor in 1993.

“I’ve admired Avrel’s work with The Alcalde for a long time, and he has a genuine passion for environmental issues,” said Davis, CEO and principal of EnviroMedia. “He’ll make our staff of strong writers and creative thinkers even better and help us continue to tell the world about the important work we’re doing.”
