Drought Relief on the Way: EnviroMedia to Work on North Texas Water Awareness Campaign
Austin-Based Agency Also Wins Top Award for Outstanding Ethics from the Texas PR Association

(AUSTIN, Texas) – The North Texas Municipal Water District has hired Tuerff-Davis EnviroMedia Inc. to develop a comprehensive water awareness campaign in response to the ongoing drought in the region.

The campaign will begin immediately and consists of media relations, advertising and experiential "outreach" marketing. The campaign targets North Texas residents with water-saving tips, while educating them about the natural source of their water. Research indicates people who know the natural source of their water are more likely to conserve. Like many parts of the state, North Texas is facing a severe drought-one of the worst in 50 years.

EnviroMedia is a leading expert on water conservation and has worked for the Texas Water Development Board and Dallas Water Utilities. EnviroMedia is also working on a conservation campaign for the Lower Colorado River Authority. The conservation campaign focuses on water and energy.

Texas Public Relations Association Lone Star Award
The Texas Public Relations Association (TPRA) honored Tuerff-Davis EnviroMedia Inc. with its highest award for an organization-the 2006 Lone Star Award. EnviroMedia is the first public relations agency to win this award.

EnviroMedia Principals and Co-Founders Kevin Tuerff and Valerie Davis accepted the award Saturday, Feb. 25, at the annual TPRA Awards banquet in Austin. The Lone Star Award recognizes a company that places a high priority on public relations and one that exemplifies outstanding ethics when working with employees, community members, suppliers and clients.

At the TPRA banquet Saturday, President Kevin Tuerff noted, "My business partner Valerie Davis and I founded an agency where we do good things in business and life, and we challenge everyone here to do the same. We, as PR professionals, have a great opportunity to tell the truth and be ethical in the PR practice."

The Lone Star Award is only presented in years when the TPRA board of directors finds a deserving nominee. Nominees must be a Texas company or a company with major operations in Texas. The company must not only support the public relations profession but the development of its employees as well.

Previous Lone Star Award winners include Dell Inc., RadioShack Corporation, Southwest Airlines Co. and Valero Energy Corporation, among others.

"Kevin and Valerie are accomplished leaders in public relations, successful business visionaries and respected community advocates," said Michele Glaze, friend and public relations manager for Renew Data Corp. "They took a big risk in co-founding a public relations business unlike any other in the country, and their contributions make EnviroMedia a great model for other organizations."

In addition to the Lone Star Award, EnviroMedia also won four TPRA client awards on Saturday:

  • Silver Spur (Community Relations) for "Influenza Public Education and Outreach Tour" for the Texas Department of State Health Services
  • Silver Spur (Marketing) for "Medicare Rx – Helping Texans Get It" for the Texas Health and Human Services Commission and Texas Department of State Health Services
  • Best of Texas Silver (Special Video Project) for "Preparing Texas for a Safer Tomorrow" for the Texas Department of State Health Services
  • Best of Texas Silver (Media Kit-Printed) for "Don't Mess with Texas 20th Anniversary Media Kit" for the Texas Department of Transportation
