EnviroTips
When it comes to supporting the environment, EnviroMedia "walks
the talk" by recycling all paper, cardboard, plastic, glass and aluminum.
We always choose paper with the highest recycled content available and
print using soy-based inks. We even have in-office worm composting for
kitchen scraps.
We encourage you to become an environmental champion by implementing
a few of the simple tips listed below.
For Our Water:
- If you own an automatic sprinkler system, adjust the settings to water no more than every five days. Reduce each zone by a few minutes. These small changes will add up to saving water and money, without sacrificing a healthy lawn.
- A family of four can save up to 100,000 gallons of water annually
(and $100-$200 on their water bill) by installing low-flow showerheads,
faucet aerators, and toilets.
- Did you know one quart of oil dumped down a storm drain pollutes 1
millon gallons of water? You dump it. You drink it. Recycle your used
motor oil instead.
- Be sure to read the label before applying fertilizers or pesticides
to your lawn. Rainfall runoff may carry pollutants from your lawn to
nearby waterways.
For Our Health:
- Help a smoker to quit.
- Take 10,000 steps every day.
- Trim 100 calories per day from your diet to help you lose weight.
- Change out your home air filter regularly.
- Wash your hands often to reduce spreading germs.
- Be sure every child you know has health insurance.
For Our Air:
- Reduce greenhouse gases by conserving energy at home. Install automatic thermostats, shut down your computer when you're done and unplug TVs, microwaves and other devices that suck "vampire energy" when not in use.
- Install compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) around the home to reduction pollution and save money.
- Consider an energy audit of your home to identify and seal air conditioning and heating leaks.
- Find a buddy and drive to work together on ozone action days, or
try public transit.
- Do your share for cleaner air by keeping your car properly tuned and
tires inflated, carpooling, and limiting commercial drive-through lanes.
- Purchase nonpolluting green energy from your local utility.
For Our Land:
- Instead of bagging your clippings and sending them off to the landfill,
save yourself work by leaving them on your lawn as a valuable nutrient
for your soil.
- Reduce your garbage before you buy it: PRECYCLE. Chose products with
the least amount of packaging.
- Don't trash those coffee grounds - use them for compost instead.
- Save trees by duplexing that report on the copier.
- Purchase recycled-content paper and folders.
- Junk mail accounts for about half of all mail delivered to U.S. households.
If you can't recycle junk mail, try to get off some of those mailing
lists by writing to:Direct Marketing Association, P.O. Box 9008, Farmingdale,
